NEW TO EXERCISE?
beginner pilates sutton coldfield

Pilates is a fantastic way to start exercising. Its low impact nature means it's gentle on your body and won't place you under uncomfortable levels of strain, or put you at risk of injury. It is also incredibly accessible as all exercises are modifiable, meaning they can be adapted to suit all levels of physical capability. For every advanced move there's a beginners alternative. You won't walk into class and be immediately expected to perform a press up...instead you will work on strengthening individual muscles and learning their relationships with your joints - and how your entire body works and moves.

You'll learn the core principles of Pilates: Control, concentration, centring, precision, flow and breath, which as you progress will combine to habitually form part of every exercise. Learning to breathe sounds like a strange concept, however using breath with your Pilates will help aid movement, expel stale air from your lungs, and revitalise your muscles...all of which combine to make an incredibly relaxing experience!

The benefits of taking up Pilates are endless. Read more about beginners classes here.

REGULAR AT THE GYM?

If you're a gym enthusiast, chances are you are conscientious about taking care of your body. However, if you regularly do cardiovascular and/or strength training, looking after your muscles and joints is just as important as working them!

Pilates helps regular exercisers improve their performance and reduce likelihood of pain or injury by improving core strength - which in turn aids balance and supports and stabilises the spine, helping better transfer force between the upper and lower body. Many forget a strong core isn't just about the abdominal muscles - it pretty much extends to all parts of the torso excluding the arms and legs. A recent study found that doing Pilates had a far greater effect on improving the strength and tone of core musculature over and above numerous sit ups or crunches - as it reaches so much further than your abdominals, deep into your pelvic floor, obliques, diaphragm and spinal extensors.

The benefits don't just stop there though, you will also improve your flexibility, joint stability and reach a heightened level of body awareness. As a regular gym junkie myself, I testify to that fact that Pilates complements your exercise routine and protects your body - plus it gives you that extra level of muscular definition and tone you've been working for.

PLAY SPORT?

Golfer? Footballer? Rugby player? Runner? Cyclist? Anyone for tennis? Pilates is used by amateur and professional sports people worldwide because of its ability to prevent inujry and improve performance by developing whole body muscular strength, flexibility and joint stability.

Pilates also enhances muscular control by expanding the connection between body and mind - leading to heightened coordination, focus and performance.

The lateral breathing component of Pilates allows more oxygen to be transported to muscles encouraging them to reach potential - and can also lead to increased lung capacity. Plus Pilates takes core strength to new heights...improving posture, stability and power!

It's no wonder that the likes of Andy Murray, Missy Franklin, Victoria Pendleton and Tiger Woods all incorporate Pilates in their training routine.

If you want to avoid injury and improve performance it's worth incorporating Pilates into your training routine. The benefits are endless.
